It’s clear to us that the unknown can be just as dangerous as the known. After consulting with a mason, an engineer, and building officials, it was determined that the crumbling foundation of the house had compromised the chimney and that it should be removed. Had we not made that decision, we would never have known how bad the inside of the chimney actually was.
